Doubtless Magick

Our 2024 Pride Gala featured the world premiere of Associate Conductor David Weagle’s three-movement work Doubtless Magick. This piece was commissioned by QUO for the gala and features full orchestra, countertenor Jordan Rutter-Covattto, and 5 sololists from QUO’s membership: Brian Shaw (oboe, English horn, bass clarinet, saxophones); Julia Cohen (trumpet, flugelhorn, and conch shell); Phong Ta (violin); Bjorn Berkhout (cello); and Nolan Dresden (piano and celeste).

The concert also featured QUO’s second performance of Camille Saint-Saëns’ Bacchanale from Samson et Delilia, Handel’s Verdi allori from Orlando, selections from Joe Hisaishi’s My Neighbor Tortoro, and an arrangement (also by Derek Weagle) of Hildegard of Bingen’s Ordo Virtutum.
